Raised vehicle in air on lift for better access. Found rear differential oil leaking from crack at fill plug. Note: A temporary type repair was performed prior but temporary fix now leaking. Rear differential assembly case has crack where the plug inserts. – Determined / Suspect; Rear differential case has crack / L4. Temporary fix not holding well. – Recommends; Replacing rear differential assembly and related components. Found new rear differential assembly not available. Was able to source used differential assembly.
    • TECHNICIAN INSPECTED AND FOUND: – LOF sticker shows next oil service is/was due at 126,898 miles. Last service was performed over one year ago. – Engine oil level & condition; Dark / L2 -L3. Recommend performing oil service as it has been over one year since last service was performed. – Front brake pads at approximately; 10mm. – Rear brake pads at approximately; 6mm. Rotors have hot spots / L4. – Scanned computer control module and found; No codes. – Rear driveline, front u joint boot torn / L3. Recommend replacing rear driveline assembly. Found this part is obsolete and no longer available, unable to source new or used. Recommend sending driveline out to shop that can inspect and determine if it can be rebuilt. – Rust / L3 – L4.     • Technician removed rear wheels, brake calipers, rotors, rear driveline and rear spindles to gain access. Removed cover from used rear differential assembly, inspected gears, verified pattern set up is correct which indicates bearings are in good condition at this time. Fluid that drained out of unit was clean and in good condition. No concerns found with used assembly. Removed rear differential assembly. Installed used differential assembly with new rear differential mount and all available new screws and bolts. Note; Front differential mount not available & has been discontinued. Inspected customers front differential mount and found it to be in very good condition and fairly new looking. Reassembled all components. Filled rear differential with gear oil. Cleaned components. Test drove. Verified repair. Let vehicle sit in shop overnight. Reinspected next day, verified no leaks present. Performed additional test drives. Verified repair.
