- CONTINUED: They picked up car, drove home, ran fine, no check engine light on. TECHNICIAN – Test drove vehicle, inspected operation & found; Ran fine, no rough running noted. No concerns noted. – Inspected for dash/warning lights, found; Check engine light not on and did not flash during test drive. – Scanned computer control modules & found code; ** P0316 Misfire detected at start up. – Cleared code for fault tracing, found code did not return. – Inspected & found; Checked all connectors at fuel injectors, all okay. Ran car for a few minutes and could smell sulfur like catalytic converter type smell. Checked connectors at coils, found #5 coil connector latch broken. Spark plugs have light wear / L1 – L2. – Determined / Suspect; Connector for coil #5 faulty, not staying connected all the way. – Note: Sulfur smell from cats may have been present due to "misfire issue" or may be unrelated and be from a bad catalytic converter. – Recommends; Starting with replacing connector at #5 coil then retesting. ***FURTHER DAMAGE POSSIBLE*** – During call to customer they noted they had noticed the sulfur smell just a little while before the check engine light issue started.
- TECHNICIAN INSPECTED AND FOUND: – LOF sticker shows next oil service is/was due at 210,962 miles. Past due by sticker. – Engine oil level & condition; Full. Dark / L3 = Due. Recommend performing engine oil service. – Front brake pads at approximately; 8mm. – Rear brake pads at approximately; 8mm. – Inspected for dash/warning lights, found; Tire warning. No Codes. Rear Left tire only has 17lbs in it. Added air to spec in tire. No signs of damage or active leak. Recommend watching tire pressure and if tire continues to loose air recommend taking to tire shop. ***Further Damage and Possible Safety Concern*** – Rear main seal leaking engine oil / L3. Engine oil full. Recommend replacing rear main seal. – Engine oil pan gasket leaking engine oil / L3, at driverside upper corner. Possible drip down from rear main seal. Recommends replacing engine oil pan gasket and performing necessary oil service if necessary. Note: oil pan will be inspected and shop will advise if pan is necessary as well. (requires transmission removal) – Battery terminals corroded / L2. Recommend terminal service. – Water in left headlight assembly / L3. Recommend replacing left or both front headlight assemblies.
- Technician removed and replaced ignition coil connector on cylinder #5. Performed multiple test drives, scanned computers. Found no misfires present and code did not return. Did not find sulfur/cat smell to be present after any test drives. Verified repair.
- Technician performed oil service: Drained engine oil, installed new oil filter and filled with premium engine oil. Cleaned affected area. Performed courtesy vehicle inspection. Road tested. Verified service. No leaks. Installed next lof reminder sticker in window. Reset service reminder if applicable.
