    • TECHNICIAN – Test drove vehicle, inspected operation & found; Vehicle drove well. Indicator light for 4 hi or 4 lo does not come on when 4×4 selected. Found lights do turn on when vehicle is started and running system self test. No driveability concerns noted. – Inspected for dash/warning lights, found; Check engine light – Not related. – Scanned computer control modules & found; No related codes. – Inspected & found; Verified 4X4 working as designed, raised rear wheels off the ground, selected 4×4 and found vehicle pulls forward. Vehicle does shift into and out of 4 wd, 4 hi and 4 lo. Inspected function via scan tool, also shows changing into and out of 4×4. Selector indicator on scan tool only shows dotted line, indicating the sensor is not sending signal to instrument cluster to turn on the indicator lamp. "Motor position sensor" not reading. Note: there is limited information available on this vehicle. It is unclear if the 4×4 switch or the transfer case module on transfer case send the indicated position to the instrument cluster. – Determined / Suspect; 4×4 functioning as designed. Indicator is not lighting up due to lack of communication from either the TOD (torque on demand)/4×4 switch or the module on the transfer case. Note: Found transfer case assembly is discontinued and TOD switch is discontinued. – Recommends; Starting with replacing the TOD/4×4 switch then retest, if issue does not resolve then transfer case module may need to be replaced. Note: found parts are obsolete for TOD/4X4 switch and transfer case.
    • TECHNICIAN – Test drove vehicle, inspected operation & found; Shifter worked as designed every time. Attempted to duplicate concern numerous times and shifter never stuck. – Inspected for dash/warning lights, found; Check engine light. – Scanned computer control modules & found code; TCM **P0705 for transmission range sensor malfunction – Inspected & found; Shifter working as designed, did not become stuck at any time. Monitored all selected points via scan tool, verified all 4 inhibitor switch positions were correct and coming on/off as designed when each gear selected; park, neutral, reverse and drive. No faults found at this time. Note: On this vehicle it is necessary to have the brake pedal fully depressed to move shifter. Code is for the PRNDL switch which is attached to the valve body inside of the transmission and could be related to the issue with the shifter becoming stuck. – Determined / Suspect; Unable to duplicate any concern or problem. Suspect based on code the issue could be related to a faulty prndl switch which is internal to the transmission/valve body area. Note: Replacing PRNDL may require transmission replacement. – Recommends; Return for further diagnostic if issue becomes worse.

Verified engine oil full. Listened with stethoscope and verified noise coming from timing chain / L5. Noise is the loudest at the crankshaft pulley. – Determined / Suspect; Timing chain components worn/"stretched". – Recommends; Contacting the Kia dealership to determine if there are options for performing the timing chain repair on this vehicle or if engine replacement is necessary. ***POSSIBLE SAFETY AND FURTHER DAMAGE CONCERN***
